Built in the typical Kerala architectural style, Sri Krishna Swamy Temple in Ambalappuzha is dedicated to Sri Krishna and is famous all over India for the Palppayasam, the daily offering of sweet milk porridge. The festival begins with Kodiyettam(flag hoisting). The ritual art Velakali is presented in the afternoons and Padayani at night. The community feast Natakasala Sadya is served during these days.
The festival also witnesses rituals like Ambanattu Panikkar Varavu, a ceremonial procession of the members of the Ambanattu Panikkar community bringing pots of honey as votive offering to the deity. The utsavam concludes with a grand procession of caparisoned elephants and the holy hunt or Pallivetta ritual.
